A quiet instrument for breathing

UnderBreath began as a soundscape for the breathing practice at Melbourne Breathwork, and grew into its own app. It asks one question, what do you need, and answers with a breath and a sound to match.

The music is generated in your browser as you breathe: a sampled piano that plays one note for each part of the breath, a pad that changes chords without ever sliding in pitch, a low drone, and nature sounds that follow the breath. The ocean breaks as you breathe out.

It is made by Bamboo Pixel. The photographs are from Unsplash and the recorded sounds are from Freesound, and their authors are credited in the player.
